Put the leg warmers away”Hey, baby! Showin’ some skin!” It is the usual summer catcall that accompanies an attractive set of legs in a pair of short-ish shorts, or the ample cleavage framed by a tight-ish top.
While considered to be annoying and uncouth, it is also a stroke to the ego of most women, even if they won’t admit it. Allow me to play devil’s advocate for a moment.
Just what can a woman do to up her chances at being catcalled this summer?
We will start with the legs! Find a comfortable pair of sandals with a heel. The heel is key! High heels extend the muscles of the leg, affecting the overall shape and the placement of the rump. For an instantly pert rump, slip on the stilettos! Favorite heels for the season include those designed by Chrissie Morris. Her collection can be viewed online at www.chrissiemorris.net.
Now that the line of the leg is elongated and firmed, let’s move on to texture. Razor bumps and pricklies are absolutely not acceptable. To remove hair for a smooth finish, you have two options: waxing or a depilatory cream. Be sure to use an exfoliating body-scrub that is safe for daily use to keep the dry, dead skin cells from making your legs look dull. Moisturize at night and in the morning.
While the die-hards, and they will die hard, are in the tanning beds, the intelligent folks are exfoliating and utilizing self-tanning lotions and gels. For some reason, a tan leg is supposed to look like a thin leg. I think a fat tan leg is just a fat leg, but what do I know? I’m just a gay guy that has worked in the fashion and style industries for over a decade.
So, we need to talk more about those self tanners. Each formula is different, utilizing ingredients that oxidize on the skin or that actually affect the melanin in the basal layer of your skin. Not every formula will work the same on everyone. You have to try a few before you find the perfect formula for your skin. Wear gloves and work fast and evenly. The last thing you want is orange nails and palms, and streaks.
Some favorite tanning products include: Decleor Auto-Bronzant Spray Express Hydratant SPF 6, Clarins Lait Auto Bronzant, St. Tropez Whipped Mousse, Lancome Flash Bronzer Mousse, and Origins Great Pretender. While these products are manufactured for the body, many of these companies also offer creams specifically for tanning the face.
The same goes for arms. Self-tanners are wonderful. Thick wrists can be made to appear daintier by wearing thicker bangles. Thin wrists should be adorned with thin bracelets to appear less fragile. Toes and fingers should be finished with polish. Don’t be cheap! Get a pedicure and manicure to perfect the look of your extremities!
Summer garments, by nature, are lighter in fabric and texture, and are usually manufactured using less fabric. This summer bright colors, monochromatic schemes and bows are en vogue. Some helpful tips for dressing would be to avoid both mini-skirts and showing your junk. Unless you are a size 4 and stand at least 5’7″ tall, mini-skirts were not made for you. If you’ve got some junk in the trunk or have some thickness to your thighs, seek out an A-line skirt that comes to just above the knee. It will flow when you move, giving your shape a sexy twist. Unless you are wearing a sheer top, your bra should never be seen. Leave something to the imagination. That’s what is referred to as sex appeal.
With that said, if you want to be one of the catcalled, follow these tips. In no time flat, you’ll be getting noticed by every construction crew in town. Dress in your summer finery and take a stroll to be the belle of the ball!
“Boom-skak-a-lak-ah! That is one thick shake!”
