Vanderbilt, Pa., passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at his beloved farm where… Victor Vesely, Sr., age 92, of
Vanderbilt, Pa., passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at his beloved farm where he and his cherished family lived.
He was born March 25, 1916, at Smock, Pa., the son of Stephen and Mary Vesely.
Vic never sat still. In the 1940s he worked at Colonial Number 3 Coal Mine in Grindstone. He then worked at McKeesport Mill in the capacity of a greaser, and all the while, working his 193 acre farm “Three Springs Farm” in Flatwoods, Pa.
He went on to drive a bus for 33 years for Rittenhouse Bus Lines in the Uniontown School District NEVER having an accident, for which he received an award in Harrisburg.
He was very proud of his 193 acre “Three Springs Farm” and became a very active member of the United Dairy Farmers.
He looked out his window every day at the farm he loved, once again seeing Chris Rerko’s Black Angus cattle grazing away, since Chris leased the farm. This brought Vic smiles every morning.
He loved his dogs, Shadow, Dakota and his cat, the King. They always gave him unconditional love and happiness.
Vic loved listening to Bob Fultz every afternoon and the Little House on the Prairie along with his westerns.
He enjoyed going to Flatwoods Days and listening to his best friend, Tiny, play his guitar.
Vic owned a Chet Atkins guitar that he played until his health changed.
He loved talking for hours on the phone with his sister-in-law, Bertha Grimplin. They enjoyed long conversations.
He spoiled the grandchildren: Jackie Porter, John Vesely, Christine Gantner, Jamie Dennis, Keith Gantner, Vicki Montgomery, Johnna Showalter, Jason Layton and David Vesely, when they were little by taking them for ice cream in the back of his pick-up truck to Casa del Santo’s.
Every Christmas, he was visited by his buddies for years as a tradition. Rick and Ron Allen, Joe Kool, as well as numerous loving friends, always ate homemade chicken noodle soup and mixed drinks Vic had prepared weeks in advance for their Christmas morning visit.
He waited every Sunday night for his son, Jack, to call from Ohio and the two would talk for hours.
He was cared for in his home by his daughter, Michele, granddaughter, Christine, son, Sonny, and wife, Sandy, and daughter, Peggy.
On behalf of Vic, we would like to thank all the caregivers at Albert Gallatin Home Health Care, especially Laura and Bobby, whom he loved to see.
Vic was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by the following children: Victor (Sonny) Vesely, Jr., and wife, Sandy of Vanderbilt, John S. (Jack) Vesely and wife, Linda, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Margaret (Peggy) Layton and husband, Ed, of Vanderbilt, Dolores Reagan and husband, Jim, of Vanderbilt, Michele Gantner, of Vanderbilt, the 9 grandchildren listed above as well as much loved 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Vesely.
Friends will be received in the BLAIR – LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 305 Rear Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa., Saturday 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Prayer Service will be held Monday, at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, Pa., at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Father Bob Lubic as Celebrant.
Interment will be in Saint John’s Cemetery, Perryopolis, Pa. A wake service will be held on Suday, May 4, 2008.
