Carrie E. Burns Nicholson, age 89, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Lafayette Manor.

Carrie was born in Eureka, Pa., on May 21, 1918, the daughter of James Bruns and Lizzie (Nelson) (Layhue) Burns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norman Nicholson, daughter, Edwina Nicholson, a son, James Nicholson, four brothers, Frank Burns, George Layhue, Roy Layhue, Charles Layhue, seven sisters, Amy Woodward, Margaret McGraw, Mary Martin, Annie Layhue, Alberta Layhue, Helen Adams and Edna Black, two granddaughters, a grandson, a great grandson and a great-great grandson.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Carrie is survived by three daughters: Janet Galie and her husband, Anthony, of Hibbs, Pa., Betty Bertovich and her husband, Steven, of Smock, Pa., Valerie Hall and her husband, Elmer “Buzz”, of Uniontown; sons: Ronald Nicholson and wife, Gloria, of Uniontown, Joseph Nicholson and wife, Joann, of Uniontown and William Nicholson and wife, Rae, of Uniontown; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends were received on Saturday, May 3, 2008, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the THOMAS M. DOLFI FUNERAL HOME in Uniontown, Pa., and will be received today (Sunday, May 4) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, May 5, until 9:30 a.m. at which time Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Saint John The Evangelist Roman Catholic Church on Jefferson Street with Father Matthew Brozovic, O. F. M., as the Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown.
