Edward John Kendralla, 84, of Greensboro, Pa., died at 5:25 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown,… Edward John Kendralla, 84, of Greensboro, Pa., died at 5:25 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
He was born April 10, 1924, in Penn Pitt, a son of John and Anna Sheba Kendralla and remained a life long resident of Greene County, Pa.
Mr. Kendralla was a retired coal miner, having worked 42 years with the Duquesne Light Company. At the age of 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. stationed primarily in Glacier National Park in Montana.
After returning from the CCC, he was drafted into the Army where he served as Sargent in the 42nd Air Depo Gr in World War II ETO (Europe). Also, he served in the 9th Air Force Squadron. He often mentioned that he was “one of a very few” to serve in both branches. He was very proud of his service in the 558th Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. Also, a member of the National Rifle Association, United Mine Workers Association, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 47, Uniontown, Pa and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Greensboro, Pa.
He was devoted to his wife and family and cherished time with them on his farm, Circle-K-Ranch. He especially enjoyed time with his beloved grandchildren and touring the farm on his Gator. Spending many hours on the farm, he developed a love for land and spending time on the tractor.
On July 3, 1948, he married Josephine Shimko Kendralla who survives. Also surviving are two children and their spouses: Kevin and Melissa Kendralla, Gahanna, Ohio and Karen and Randy Welch, Kingwood, W.Va.; grandchildren: Sheri Welch, Chesterfield, Missouri, Holly Welch, Reedsville, W.Va., Edward Kendralla and Michael Kendralla, Gahanna, Ohio; great-grandchild, Alexis Welch, Kingwood, W.Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Rose Kendralla, Greensboro, Pa. and Frank and Rose Marie, Kendralla, Aliquippa, Pa.
Deceased in addition to his parents, son, Edward Kendralla, brothers, Joseph and John Kendralla, sisters, Mary Kendralla Ralston and Ann Trenz.
Funeral services will be private for the family.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the VFW 47, Main Street, Uniontown, Pa.
