Music festival to honor southwestern PA

By Lori Ann Goodwin 2 min read

According to local guitarist Fred Adams Uniontown is one of the best live music areas around. So it is only fitting that there be a music festival celebrating southwestern Pennsylvania culture and the local artists who reside and play here. The Coal and Coke Heritage Music Festival will debut on Sept. 27 at Penn State Fayette – The Eberly Campus.

According to Susan Brimo-Cox, director of public relations at Penn State Fayette, the festival will offer a full day of musical entertainment of all kinds, as well as ethnic food of the region. She said the event will celebrate the pride and progress of the region and honor the culture, labor and music of the coal and coke region of southwestern Pennsylvania.

Penn State Fayette Chancellor Emmanuel Osagie said that very often we don’t have the opportunity to celebrate all of the talent in and around the area.

This festival will be a “platform to showcase our own and to be proud of who we are,” he said.

Among the local performers at the festival will be jazz trombonist Harold Betters, guitarist Fred Adams, The Fabulous Softwinds, FiddleKicks, The NewLanders, River City Brass Bands, Simple Gifts, Lisa Yvonne Ferraro and Ferla-Marcinizyn Guitar Duo.

Adams added that there may be a few more acts to be announced, and Cox said there will be multiple stages, food vendor booths, arts and crafts displays, and the Coal and Coke Heritage Cneter will be open for browsing and tours.
