A Connellsville man who was among several people injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday in North Union Township has died. Joshua B. Basinger, 20, died in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., from injuries suffered in the crash.
Basinger was one of six people injured in the collision at 7:48 a.m. on Northgate Highway.
According to state police Trooper Timothy A. Kirsch, the crash occurred when a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Matthew Morse of Connellsville and a Toyota 4-Runner driven by Paul Kania of Smock collided.
Morse, 19, – along with passengers Basinger and Brandon Bargiband, 14, of Scottdale – suffered severe injuries in the crash.
Medical helicopters flew Basinger and Bargiband to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Morse was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Kirsch said Morse, along with the passengers in his car, were not wearing seat belts.
Allegheny General Hospital officials said Morse remained in the hospital’s trauma unit Friday afternoon. No additional information about his condition was released.
An update on Bargiband’s condition was not available Friday.
Kirsch said Kania, his 4-year-old son and 20-month-old daughter also suffered minor injuries. They were treated at Uniontown Hospital. Kirsch noted that all three people in Kania’s vehicle were in safety restraints.
