Hearing continued

By The 1 min read

A preliminary hearing was continued Thursday for a Uniontown man charged with homicide by vehicle in the 2007 death of a Fayette County man in Georges Township. Edward Eugene Weimer, 51, of 209 Fairview St. had been charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, careless driving and reckless driving after the pickup truck he was driving struck and killed Jonathan Anderkovitch on Dec. 22.

However, last month state police Trooper Matthew J. Alekson amended the charges before Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham to include homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Fayette County Assistant District Attorney Phyllis A. Jin, Weimer has a prior record, including a DUI charge in 2001 and a homicide by vehicle charge in a DUI-related crash in 1984.

Following the new charges, Weimer was remanded to the Fayette County Prison on 10 percent of $75,000 straight cash bond. Additionally, Abraham imposed a pretrial services stipulation on the bond should Weimer post bail prior to a hearing.

The hearing is rescheduled for June 12 before Abraham.
