Eleanor J. “Janie” Young Smith, 70, of Connellsville, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, after a courageous… Eleanor J. “Janie” Young Smith, 70, of Connellsville, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her family was at her side at the Oak Hill Rehabilitation Center, Greensburg, Pa
She was born May 16, 1937, in Scottdale, Pa., the daughter of Elmer Young and Laura Long Young.
“Janie” was a member of the Alverton United Methodist Church.
She and her husband, Frank R. Smith, who survives, owned and operated several area businesses including Smith’s Kandy Kupboard, Stacie’s Miniature Homes and the Fay-West Arena Roller Skating Rink.
“Janie” loved her family and devoted herself to them.
“Janie” was predeceased by her parents and by an infant son, Terry Lynn Smith in 1963.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Frank R. Smith; three daughters: Susan Pritts and husband Harold Pritts Jr., Wendy Smith and her fiance Rick Allen, and Stacie Blackstone and her husband Matthew all of Connellsville, Pa.; son, David F. Smith and his wife Diane of Bonifay, Florida; 11 grandchildren: David T. Smith, Jennifer Trojan and April Puchala all of Florida, David Copeland Jr., Christine Copeland, Heather Farris, Jamie Mekic, Eric Blackstone, Breana Blackstone, Michael Blackstone and Hunter Blackstone all of Connellsville, Pa.; and 14 great-grandchildren; “Janie” also has many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and devoted friends who have all visited and given tremendous comfort during her illness.
Family and Friends will be welcomed in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 1223 South First Street, West Side, Connellsville, Pa., on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, May 21, 2008, until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with the Rev. Tom Shirer officiating.
Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville, Pennsylvania.
