Donna L. Schmidt, 68, of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008, after battling breast cancer for over… Donna L. Schmidt, 68, of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008, after battling breast cancer for over three years. She maintained a cheerful and positive attitude to the end.
Donna was born in 1939, at Brownsville, Pa., to Walter and Grace (Davis) Ashton. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1957 and was the class Salutatorian. Donna was the editor of the yearbook, member of the student council, president of the girls chorus and member of other student clubs. She attended California State College of Pennsylvania. Donna moved from Brownsville to Washington, D.C. in the late 1960’s, where she was employed by IBM for twenty one years. After retiring, she worked at Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland for an additional nine years.
She has been a full time resident of Fort Myers since 2002.
Donna leaves behind her loving husband of 26 years, Rodger, her daughter, Dr. Lynette Gillis of Nashville, Tenn. and many other extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 1:15 p.m., at SHELL POINT VILLAGE CHURCH CHAPEL.
