Washington man faces robbery charges

By Jennifer Harr 2 min read

A Washington County man who allegedly stole a box of panty hose to disguise his face during two robberies had the charges levied against him held for court on Thursday. Michael Randolph, 34, of Washington faces charges of robbery, simple assault, theft by unlawful taking, attempted theft by unlawful taking, terroristic threats, retail theft and driving under the influence of alcohol for offenses that allegedly occurred earlier this month.

State police Trooper Robert Cree alleged that on May 16 Randolph stole a pair of L’eggs pantyhose from the Shop ‘n’ Save supermarket in Waynesburg. Randolph, police said, put the hose over his head, and then tried to rob the Movie Gallery, a video rental store.

Several hours later, Randolph allegedly robbed a 7-11 convenience store, but did not get any money, police said.

He was eventually taken into custody at a Sheetz convenience store by Trooper Randy Simko, and charged with drunken driving.

Randolph’s blood-alcohol content has not yet been determined because the laboratory work is not yet complete, said Greene County District Attorney Marjorie Fox.

After Randolph was arrested, Cree secured a warrant to search his vehicle, and reportedly found a partial cardboard box from the L’eggs pantyhose.

The preliminary hearing was held before Magisterial District Judge D. Glenn Bates. Randolph remains in prison on $50,000 bond.

He also has parole detainers in cases from Washington County. A records check shows 21 other criminal cases lodged against Randolph in Washington, Greene, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties stretching back to 1992.

Fox praised state police Thursday.

“We commend the Pennsylvania State Police for their exemplary work as well as the cooperation and assistance of law-abiding citizens of the community,” she said.
