Police probe dog shooting

By Josh Krysak 1 min read

Uniontown police said they are investigating an incident in which a dog was shot at a home in the city. Police Detective Donald M. Gmitter said the incident occurred around 11 p.m. Wednesday, when the animal’s owners heard what they thought were two gunshots near their home in the East End neighborhood.

Initially, the residents, who have not been identified by police, told officers that they did not think anything of the shots, Gmitter said.

However, Thursday morning, Gmitter said they found the animal bleeding and limping with a serious gunshot wound to one if its legs.

Gmitter said the animal was taken to Geary Veterinary Services in North Union Township for treatment. He noted that the dog’s leg had to be amputated as a result of the gunshot wound.

Gmitter said he spent part of the afternoon Thursday collecting forensic evidence at the scene, including two spent shell casings in the alley near where the dog’s box is located.

He said he is continuing to investigate the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-430-2929.
