Frances C. “Prex” Brown Hasty, R.N., age 74, of Edenborn, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, March 7, 2008.

Frances was born… Frances C. “Prex” Brown Hasty, R.N., age 74, of Edenborn, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, March 7, 2008.

Frances was born in Newport News, Virginia, to George Brown and Herleana Allen, on August 11, 1933.

She was the fourth of eight children and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in May 1945.

In 1951, Frances graduated from German Township High School. McClellandtown, Pa.

Thereafter, she moved to New York City with her aunt, Fannie Sammuels. During this time, Frances worked at Harlem Hospital as an operating room technician.

“Precious” nicknamed by her mother, better known as “Prex”, married Richard C. Hasty in October of 1956. Two children came from this union, Vanessa and Karen.

Frances pursued her interest in Health Care and attended St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Hoboken, New Jersey. She graduated in 1958. As a nurse, Frances worked at Cumberland and Prospect Hospital in New York City, respectively.

In 1968, the family moved to Harlem and Frances began her career as a Registered Nurse at the Harlem Hospital Center.

Prior to her retirement, she dedicated more than 25 years of service to the Harlem Hospital Family Planning Clinic.

Frances Hasty served as an usher and was an active member of the Sharon Baptist Church in the Bronx and the Union Baptist Church in Harlem.

She traveled extensively with family and friends and enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and all social gatherings.

“Prex” was blessed with a great family, work family, church family and friends who are heartfelt family members! She touched many lives and will be deeply missed!

She leaves two daughters: Vanessa and Karen; four sisters: Doll, Wee, Joan and Peg; three brothers: Sonny, Billy and Marvin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children and dear friends.

After 74 years of service on Earth, Ma went peacefully, March 7, 2008.

Services were held on Saturday, March 15, 2008, in the BENTA’S FUNERAL HOME INC., 630 St. Nicholas Avenue, New York, New York 10030 (212-281-8850). Rev. James Bryant officiated.
