John Thomas Hogsett, 58, of Brownsville, Pa., passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in the Uniontown Hospital.

He was born,… John Thomas Hogsett, 58, of Brownsville, Pa., passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in the Uniontown Hospital.

He was born, January 15, 1950, in Houston Texas a son of the late John Foster Hogsett and Theresa Sullivan Hogsett.

John was a member of Brownsville Lodge 60 F & A.M., the American Legion Post 0295 of Brownsville, Pa., the Saint Omer Commandary 7, the Knights Templar of Uniontown, Pa., the Monessen R.A.C. 164, the Interstate Horseman’s Association Inc., the American Saddle Horse Association, Tri-State Futurity, United Professional Horsemen’s Association. John was a retired foreman from Unites States Steel’s Dilworth Mine, a graduate of Uniontown High School and Penn State Fayette Campus. He served his country proudly as a Lance Cpl., in the United States Marine Corps. An avid Horseman who’s Stallion is ranked at number seven in the region John, along with his wife, Gloria, own and operate Luzerne Saddlebreds, a horse breeding farm specializing in American Saddlebred horses. The saddle horses were John’s passion and the joy and satisfaction he took from the horses goes beyond description. As a result of his breeding operation, he was able to see the fruits of his labor come to life. The many colts he raised went on to garner numerous futurity championships in the tri-state area and also became successful performance horses in the show ring. John was a member of USEF, Inter-State Horse Show Assoc., ASHAO, and the American saddlebred Futurity of IN., KY., Ohio, Penn-Ohio and Tri-State. He was also a board member of the Inter-State Horse Show Assoc. and the Tri-State Futurity. He also was a past horse show manager for the Waynesburg, Pa. horse show.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria Show Hogsett; a son, John T. Hogsett, Jr. and wife, Dianne of Brownsville, Pa.; daughters: Theresa L. Koon and husband, Frank of Grindstone, Pa and Danielle Guerrieri and husband, Brian of Republic, Pa.; grandchildren: Brittany Remington, Bethany Remington, John T. Hogsett III, Nicholas Koon, Marissa Koon, Madelyn Hogsett, Brian Guerrieri, Brandon Guerrieri, Brayden Guerrieri and Aubrianna Hogsett; father-in-law, Stanley J. Wajda of Republic, Pa.; a sister, Mary Ann Smith of Pensicola, Fla; brothers: Robert Hogsett of Panama City, Fla. Richard Hogsett and William Hogsett of Uniontown, Pa. and several aunts uncles and cousins.

Friends will be received in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME, 19 Legion Street, Republic, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday until 11 a.m. the hour of Service with Pastor H. David McElroy officiating.

Interment will be in Acklin Cemetery, Hopewell Road, Brownsville, Pa., where Military Rites will be accorded by Hopwood Amvets Post 103.

Brownsville Lodge 60 F & A.M. will hold Masonic Services on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s name may be made to Saddle Bred Association, 4083 Iron Work Parkway, Lexington, KY, 40511.
