Survivors honored

CALIFORNIA – California University of Pennsylvania and National City are teaming up to honor breast cancer survivors during the Oct. 11 homecoming football game against the Lock Haven Bald Eagles.

They’re asking the community to help by nominating friends, family members or fellow employees who are survivors.

Thirty breast cancer survivors will be chosen to participate in an on-field pre-game ceremony honoring the strength and courage of all survivors.

Each survivor will receive two tickets, courtesy of National City Bank and California University of Pennsylvania, to the game and a special gift to commemorate the occasion. Survivors can be nominated online by visiting NationalCity.com/CalUNomination.

The nomination process will close on Sept. 12.

The pre-game ceremony is part of National City’s ongoing “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign, promoting breast cancer awareness and featuring Vulcans’ Head Coach John Luckhardt as spokesperson.

“There are 2 million cancer survivors in America – enough to fill Adamson Stadium many times over,” Luckhardt said.

“The survivors we’re honoring are a small handful of those who command our respect and admiration,” Luckhardt continued.

The “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign is part of National City’s comprehensive program to fight breast cancer.

Through the sale of its Diamond Edition checking and credit card products, a portion of each transaction goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with special incentive contributions during the month of October.

Since inception, the Diamond Edition products have enabled National City to donate more than $2.5 million to the Foundation.

The Foundation’s mission is aimed at saving lives by raising awareness of breast cancer through education and providing mammograms for those in need.
