Pit bull confiscated after biting incidents

By Christine Haines 1 min read

Herald-StandardThe Fayette County Humane Society took a pit bull terrier owned by Robert Martin of West Brownsville into custody after several people were bitten Monday evening. According to Washington County 911 records, the incident occurred around 6:46 p.m. and the Fayette County Humane Society, which provides animal control services for West Brownsville, was called to investigate.

Humane police officer Rich Huey said Martin voluntarily signed the dog over to the humane society.

“The dog will be quarantined for 10 days although it was up to date on its shots. We’ll ultimately have to euthanize it,” Huey said.

Huey said one person was bit while helping the owner with the dog and required stitches for a leg injury. Another person was reportedly bitten on the hand while walking along Middle Street and a third person was bitten in the face. The victims were treated at Brownsville Tri-County Hospital.

“One person was intervening in the animal control officer’s job. She came running out with a baseball bat and the dog attacked her. The dog was on its own property. The women went on to the dog owner’s property,” Huey said. “The owner is taking full responsibility and I don’t think we’ll be pressing charges.”
