Strange week in the NFL

2 min read

San Diego was defeated on the last play of the game when Carolina backup tight end Dante Rosario somehow got behind the defense in the end zone. And Jacksonville – yeah, the team I picked to win the Super Bowl – was beaten in a game started by Vince “Basket Case” Young and finished by Kerry “Last Call” Collins.

Oh, and by the way, the Browns are still the Browns.

The Steelers played as expected; no surprises there.

Should Pittsburgh beat down the Browns Sunday night, just hand the division title to the Black and Gold afterwards.

Cleveland won’t recover from two home losses to open the season.

My top and bottom six NFL teams after Week 1:

1. Dallas. Their offensive line is better than the Steelers. That’s why the Cowboys are No. 1 and Pittsburgh’s not.

2. Pittsburgh. Don’t mistake the 35-17 win over Houston as a victory over some creampuff. The Texans weren’t supposed to roll over and play dead.

3. Philadelphia. A rejuvenated Donovan McNabb? Watch out NFC East.

4. Buffalo. With Brady out for the season, Buffalo is new favorite in AFC East. And defense and special teams are a winning combination.

5. Denver. Better than most people think. If Carolina can win in San Diego on the opening weekend …

6. N.Y. Giants. Eli Manning still makes me nervous when he drops back to pass. Will go as far as defense takes them.

27. Kansas City. The best thing about K.C. is still the barbecue.

28. Detroit. This team made Michael Turner and his backup look like early MVP candidates.

29. St. Louis. How can a team with Marc Bulger, Steven Jackson and Torry Holt be this bad on offense?

Treinta. Cincinnati. It’s not entirely Marvin’s fault.

31. San Francisco. Aren’t last because they won a coin flip.

32. Oakland. Is football north of San Diego really this bad?
