Edgar D. Mayfield, Jr., 77, of Fairchance, Pa. died September 10, 2008, in the Uniontown Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born August 1, 1931, in Smithfield, Pa., son of the late Edgar D. Mayfield and Dorene Farner Mayfield.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Michelle Baker and sisters, Dorthy Butka and Frances Kovalchick.

He was the last surviving member of his parents’ immediate family.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict and a member of the Alfred Wilson Memorial VFW Post 7219 of Fairchance.

Ed was employed for 34 years as a car inspector for the former B & O, Chessie System and now CSX Transportation System railroad.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine “Kay” Farnsworth Mayfield; four children: Chuck Mayfield and wife, Merlene, Ledyard, Connecticut, Edgar “Bo” Mayfield and wife, Cathy, Martin, Pa., Daniel Mayfield, Vanderbilt, Pa. and Richard Mayfield, Fairchance, Pa.; ten grandchildren: Sabrina, June, Phillip, Ryan, Cameron, Noah, Trevor, Michael, Carl and Anna; four great-grandchildren: Jordyn, Bailey, Haylee and Kylee and his two faithful pets, Max and Baby.

The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. today, from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Monday, September 15, 2008 until 11 a.m. the hour of service with Rev. Pastor Nicholas Cook officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa. with Military Rites being accorded at by Amvets Post 103.
