Josephine Marie Shiner Kolencik
Josephine Marie Shiner Kolencik, 83, of Uniontown, Pa, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening, September 10, 2008 in the Uniontown Hospital. She was born July 9, 1925, in Lamberton, Pa., the daughter of the late Andrew Shiner and Anna Shiner.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gabriel Thomas Kolencik Sr. on January 5, 2002. Also her sisters, Angela Shiner and Mary Shiner Shuma, brothers, Walter Shiner and Stanley Shiner.
Josephine was a member of Saint Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Footedale, Pa., and she graduated from the former German Twp. High School.
People who knew her will remember her as “the kind lady at Kolencik Gulf Station on Pittsburgh Street who passed out goodies to all the children.” She showed by example her constant kindness and generosity towards others. She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, cooking, baking and planting her vegetable garden.
Although she will be missed, her life will be celebrated through the countless memories she has left for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Josephine is survived by her loving and devoted children: Thomas Kolencik and wife, Donna of Uniontown, Edward Kolencik and wife, Judith of Uniontown, Gabriel Kolencik Jr. and wife, Kathleen of Uniontown, Jerome Kolencik and Terri, and Lois Allen and husband, Jeffrey of Uniontown; her loving grandchildren: Thomas Kolencik and wife, Dana, Lennie Kolencik and wife, Lindsay of Ohio, Michael Kolencik of Uniontown, Edward Kolencik Jr. and wife, Susan of Uniontown, Amy Beth Russell and husband, Barry of Uniontown, Jennifer Harris and husband, Jim of California, Pa., Nicole Kolencik Curry and husband, Buster of Uniontown, Corinne Kolencik of Uniontown, Neil Kolencik of Uniontown, Derek, Brianna Kolencik of Uniontown, Jeffrey Joseph and Christopher Allen and Jeffrey Ohrn and wife, Tammy of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren whom she adored: Gabrielle, Monica, Gianna, Sabrina, Thomas, Samantha and Ian Kolencik, Brayden Michael Russell, Ava Marie Kolencik, Jim, Alex and Zachary Kolencik and Caiden Ohrn; her sister, Ann Gamon of Lamberton, Pa.; sisters-in-law: Mary Shiner of Uniontown and Dorothy Kolencik of Ohio; numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa. today, September 13, 2008 from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, September 15, 2008 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Footedale, with Rev. Father Peter Peretti as celebrant.
Interment follows in Saint Thomas Church Cemetery.
Parish Wake Services will be held Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
