Margaret L. (Connors) Shutok

Margaret L. (Connors) Shutok of Canonsburg, Pa., was born November 2, 1921, and passed away peacefully Saturday, September 13, 2008, in her home with her Family by her bedside. She was born in Lemont Furnace, Pennsylvania, the Daughter of John Connors and Mary (Bainbridge) Connors.

She graduated from the now former North Union Township High School Class of 1939 and from California State Teachers College (now California University of Pennsylvania) with a degree in Education in 1943.

Margaret taught for 36 years starting in North Braddock Elementary School, overseas in military schools and kindergarten at Borland Manor Elementary School from 1962 through 1984.

She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and a Lifetime Member of the Parent Teachers’ Association.

In 1972, Margaret received the “Outstanding Teacher of America Award”.

Margaret served as the President of the Canonsburg Friends of the Library and also the Retired Officers Association Ladies. She held offices as Program Director, the Treasurer and the Vice President of the Military Wives Club in Oakdale, Pa.

She was also a member of Saint Patrick Church where she volunteered as a CCD teacher for many years.

She was active as a “Den Mother” of the Boy Scouts and a Leader in the Girl Scouts in Canonsburg, Pa.

Her hobbies included dancing, traveling, reading.

On August 19, 1947, Margaret married Stanley J. Shutok, who survives.

She is also survived by her Son, Richard J. Shutok of Oakdale, Pa.; her Daughters: Susan Duckworth of Canonsburg, Pa., Sharon Utlak of Midlothian, Virginia, Patricia Shutock of Canonsburg, Pa., Karen Overcashier of Eighty Four, Pa., and Mary Lou May of Peters Township, Pa.; seven Grandchildren and six Great-Grandchildren.

Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Preceding her in death were her mother, father, four brothers, six sisters, and her daughter Kathleen who died in infancy.

Friends will be received at the SALANDRA FUNERAL SERVICE INC., Joseph P. Salandra, Owner/Supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317 (724.245.8120) today from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at 12 Noon in Saint Patrick Church, Canonsburg.

Interment will follow in The National Cemetery Of The Alleghenies, Cecil, Pa.
