AG school board approves strategic plan
Board members approved the academic standards and assessment report, the educational technology report, the professional education report, the student services report and the teacher induction report by an 8-0 vote, with board member Ed Sutton being absent from Wednesday’s meeting. The school board also unanimously agreed to send the final copy of the district’s strategic plan to the state Department of Education.
Drafts of the new strategic plan were available on the district’s Web site and at all of the schools for public inspection since Aug. 20.
The five-year plan focuses on ensuring all students are achieving at high levels.
Board members also conducted a variety of other business at Wednesday’s meeting following a 67-minute executive session for labor negotiations and personnel and student confidentiality matters.
The board accepted the resignation of cafeteria employee Joanne Voithofer retroactive Aug. 27 and thanked Voithofer for her years of service.
The board also voted to hire Richard Brady as a custodian at A.L. Wilson Elementary School, hired Katie Armstrong as a temporary professional employee for business computer technology at A.G. South Middle School and hired Ken Musko as Future Educator of America extracurricular activity sponsor at A.G. High School.
As for other hires, the board unanimously agreed to reappoint Sgt. 1st Class Barbara J. Harmon as the district’s Junior ROTC Army instructor retroactive Aug. 1 through July 31, 2009.
In unrelated business, the school hoard voted to eliminate eight cafeteria positions, six of the positions at A.L. Wilson Elementary School and two of the positions at A.G. High School.
The board gave approval to create one learning support classroom aide at A.L. Wilson Elementary School and a curriculum/federal funds administrator position for the district.
As for athletics, the school board accepted the resignation of Larry Flowers as assistant football coach and also accepted the resignation of Lindsey Smart as cheerleading coach, both of A.G. South Middle School.
The board also hired several athletic coaches at the high school and middle schools for the 2008-2009 sport season.
The next school board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at Masontown Elementary School.
