Sarah A. McClaren Monahan
Sarah A. McClaren Monahan, 88, of Uniontown, Pa., passed peacefully away Saturday, September 27, 2008, in Uniontown Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 6, 1920, the daughter of John W. and Mildred McClaren.
Mrs. Monahan was one of the original Uniontown City School Crossing Guards who ensured the safety of children attending the East End School.
She later worked as a Switchboard Operator for the Uniontown newspapers.
She was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was always first in offering a helping hand to those in need. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved and adored!
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John P. Monahan (September 30, 1956), a great granddaughter, Kessa Lynn Berry, and two sisters, Delores Price and Patricia Anthony.
Surviving are five children: Patricia Monahan of Pittsburgh, Pa., John P. Monahan and wife Linda of Leetonia, Ohio, Mary M. “Peggy”_ Mrosko and husband Jim of Hopwood, Pa., James Monahan and wife Ileen and Jeanne L. Shimko and her husband Jeff all of Uniontown, Pa.; 14 grandchildren: Kevin Ernst, Kristina Ernst, Melissa Berry and husband Kevin, Erica Tyson, Michael Monahan and wife Carrie, Jim Mrosko Jr. and wife Tami, John Mrosko and his fiancee Jody Bryner, Emily Geist and her husband Jason, Meghan Straub and husband Chris, Jill Monahan, Lucas Monahan, Connor Monahan, Jennifer Toth and husband Spencer, and Brian Shimko; seven great-grandchildren: Dawn Berry, Braiden Berry, Katie Tyson, Shelby Monahan, Michael Monahan, Jr., Kaylie Mrosko and John Mrosko Jr.; and a sister, Margaret Bennett of Uniontown, Pa.
Friends will be received in the JEROME W. SHELL FUNERAL HOME, 164 South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. Art Mace officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
