Confluence woman killed in 3-vehicle accident
HENRY CLAY TWP. – A Confluence woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Henry Clay Township. State police said Karen A. Metz, 65, died while being taken by ambulance to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. According to officials, Metz died from multiple internal injuries. It isn’t known if an autopsy will be performed. Police said Metz was wearing a seat belt when the collision occurred.
Police said the crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Route 40 when vehicles driven by an unidentified 45-year-old Markleysburg woman, George Metz of Confluence and Cameron Villemaire of Reva, Va., collided.
Karen Metz, who was a passenger in George Metz’s Chevrolet Impala, was trapped inside the car following the crash and had to be freed by volunteer firefighters at the scene before being taken by ambulance.
Police said George Metz suffered minor injuries.
Police said that drunken driving charges are pending further investigation against the Markleysburg woman. She suffered minor injuries.
Farmington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brian VanSickle said emergency personnel wanted to fly the woman for medical treatment but said the inclement prevented medical helicopters from flying Wednesday evening.
Volunteer firefighters from Farmington, Markleysburg and Addison, along with emergency personnel from Marclay Ambulance and Fayette EMS, responded to the crash.
