Josephine C. (Marva) Utlak
Josephine C. (Marva) Utlak, 96, of Uniontown, Pa., died on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home. She was born on July 4, 1912, in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of the late John and Mary Marva.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Utlak in 1971, four brothers, John, Steve, Paul, and Tony Marva; and four sisters, Margaret Dorsey, Anna Kosco, Molly Putanko, and Mary Krizner.
Josephine was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, and former member of St. John Byzantine Catholic Church, where she spent many years making perogi. She also worked with the Mrosko family catering many weddings and banquets. She and her husband Michael were very active in all Knights of Columbus activities and fundraisers.
Josephine was very comfortable in the kitchen, cooking and baking, and sharing that with others. She loved animals, and enjoyed music and meeting new people.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: son, William “Bill” Utlak and wife Leda of Bend, Ore.; and daughter, Judy A. Murdock and husband Bob of Graysville, Pa.; a grandson, William “Bill” Utlak, Jr.; a sister, Verna Giachetti, all of Uniontown, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 North Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.; and on Monday, April 27, 2009, until 9 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, Pa., with the Rev. Father Alexander L. Pleban as Celebrant.
Interment will be held at St. John Byzantine Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
St. Joseph Parish Family Vigil by the Ministry of Consolation will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
