South Connellsville Kids Day set May 3 The South Connellsville Rod & Gun Club will host its annual free Kids Fun Fishing day from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, May 3. For the occasion, the small stream near the clubhouse will be stocked with 400 or more brook trout.
All youngsters 12 years old and younger are invited to attend.
A limit of five trout per fishermen will be enforced.
The club will provide free hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and a gift to all who register.
Hot dogs, soft drinks and coffee will be offered for sale to adults.
Bait will be sold at the registration tent.
In the event of inclement weather, Sunday, May 17 has been designated as a rain date.

Persons who wish to join the club and members who want to pay their dues for this year can do so at the Kid’s Day event.
FISHING DERBY: The Fayette County Conservation District will host its annual children’s fishing derby from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 2 at the Fairchance Community Park.
Prizes will be awarded in three age groups.

All children 15-years-of-age and under are encouraged to participate.
There is no cost, and participants will be treated to a picnic following the fishing derby.
Prizes will be awarded to the top young anglers.

BASIC BOATING COURSE: A series of Pennsylvania Basic Boating and Personal Watercraft Safety courses will be held to prepare boaters for a safe summer on the water.
The first course will be held Saturday, May 9 at Mosites Motorsports in North Huntingdon, the second is set for the Mon Valley YMCA in Monongahela on Saturday, May 16, and the third is scheduled for Saturday, May 23 at the Mon Valley Emergency Medical Services on Donner Ave. and 9th St. in Monessen.
Pennsylvania now requires all personal watercraft operators age 12 and up to complete an approved safety course before operating on state waters.
In addition, all persons born after Jan. 1, 1982 may not operate a boat with 26+ horsepower in Pennsylvania without first completing an approved state or federal safety course.
Participants who successfully complete the course will be issued a temporary Pennsylvania Boating Safety Certificate that is valid in states requiring boater safety education. Students must mail their course application along with a check for $10 to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to receive their permanent certificate.

The course fee is $20 and includes morning snacks and beverages.
