Bus run scheduled
Dr. Gary Brain, superintendent of the Laurel Highlands School District, has announced a courtesy bus run will be conducted Friday, Aug. 21 for the parents of all new kindergarten students.
Bus drivers with First Student Transit will make a courtesy run to all district elementary schools one hour later than the child’s scheduled pick-up time, which will be published in the Herald-Standard newspaper and posted on the district’s Web site at www.lhsd.org
.
The bus run will help children become familiar with procedures for riding the bus and hopefully alleviate any concerns or anxiety for parents and their kindergarten students.
Parents and children are encouraged to ride buses to and from the school together during the courtesy bus run. Bus drivers will not pick up any child not accompanied by an adult. The orientation is for kindergarten children only.
The building principal will welcome parents and students at their respective school. After a brief tour of the classroom and the school, bus drivers will return students and parents to their home.
The courtesy bus run was initiated 12 years ago and has been very rewarding to both parents and students, district officials said. First Student offers the service at no cost to the district.
Parents must call their child’s elementary school to register for the bus run.
Questions regarding the bus run may be directed to Mike Rozgony, the district’s director of transportation/assistant middle school principal, at 724-437-2865, ext. 337 or the child’s building principal.
