The Greene County Tourist Promotion Agency recently announced revised guidelines for the organization’s grant application program. The agency offers two grants, a matching advertising grant and a special event grant, for the promotion of events within Greene County. Grants are only awarded to GCTPA members and are designed to support events that will stimulate economic growth and overnight stays in Greene County, as well as for the development of future tourism activities that will attract out-of-town visitors. The revisions to the guidelines involve both the application deadlines and a limit on the number of grants applicants can receive.

Applications for events being held in the months of January through June must be submitted no later than Oct. 1 of the previous year. April 1 is the deadline for applications for events being held in the months of July through December. Applicants can request a minimum of $150 up to a maximum of $500 per grant, but only two grants will be awarded to one applicant in a year (one per each six-month period).

For print and radio advertising, grant recipients must adhere to the agency’s logo, motto and Web site usage guidelines. Grant monies are only intended to enhance planned advertising, not to cover the entire advertising budget, and should be matched by the recipient. All monies awarded by the GCTPA for advertising must be used for advertising outside of Greene County.

Within 60 days of the conclusion of each event, grant recipients must submit to the GCTPA a written summary of the event, including the number of participants and detailed reports on the event’s success and economic impact on the local community. Documentation of how all grant money was spent must also be submitted.
