Police say councilman not a suspect
Drug raid conducted at council member’s home A team of law enforcement officials, led by Uniontown police, conducted a drug raid at the home of a Uniontown City Council member Thursday morning. While police Chief Jason A. Cox confirmed Thursday afternoon that Councilman Blair R. Jones Sr. is not a suspect in the drug raid, officers said they did seize multiple items, including a large amount of prescription medication, from his home.
Uniontown police Detective Donald M. Gmitter said police secured a search warrant for 67 Ben Lomond St. from Fayette County Judge John F. Wagner early Thursday on suspicion that narcotics were being trafficked through the home.
The warrant was executed on the home at 9:46 a.m. as Uniontown police, members of the Fayette County Drug Task Force, state police and members of the Fayette County District Attorney’s office infiltrated the residence.
The raid comes after several months of investigation by Uniontown police into two suspects living at the residence, Gmitter said.
He said that charges are pending against both individuals.
Their identities are being withheld pending the formalization of charges.
While the home is listed as Jones’ address and is also owned by the longtime councilman, according to Fayette County property records, Gmitter said he was not targeted in the raid and is not a suspect.
Jones could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
Gmitter said the investigation moved forward Wednesday, when he made a traffic stop near the Ben Lomond residence and found the unidentified driver in possession of marijuana and percocet.
In the search warrant, Gmitter said the driver told police he had purchased the percocet pills from one of the suspects being investigated by police at Jones’ residence.
The warrant granted officers seizure of all paperwork regarding illegal drug trafficking as well as drugs, cell phones and weapons inside the residence.
Gmitter did not reveal what additional items were taken from the home.
