Uniontown woman accused of sexual abuse agrees to probation
A Uniontown woman accused of sexually abusing three girls over an eight-year period will serve a term of probation after Fayette County prosecutors agreed to dismiss the eight most serious counts lodged against her. Megan Marie Swaney, 30, of 26 Barton Mill Road entered guilty pleas to five counts of indecent assault, while prosecutors dismissed four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault earlier this week. Uniontown police charged that Swaney abused three girls between April 1990 and January 1998. The Herald-Standard does not identify victims of sex assault. Now in their early 20s, the victims told police that Swaney repeatedly performed sexual acts on them, and threatened that they would be in trouble if they told anyone.
The victims told police that they didn’t discuss the abuse until they were out of high school, when one of the women disclosed she had been molested.
One of the victims testified at the preliminary hearing that when the three women heard that Swaney was caring for children, they were concerned and decided to come forward.
The victims ranged in age from 3 to 13, police said.
Swaney entered the plea before Judge John F. Wagner Jr., who ordered an investigation by the Sexual Offenders Assessment Board.
An investigator will determine if Swaney is a sexually violent predator, but a judge will have the final say if she will be subject to additional provisions under the Megan’s Law statute.
