Bystanders save boy from drowning

1 min read

Several bystanders saved a teenage boy who was floundering in the Youghiogheny River near Memorial Bridge in Connellsville Monday. Fayette EMS Director Rick Adobato said that the boy was swimming Monday afternoon with two friends in the river when he started to struggle. Adobato said the boy’s friends tried to help him but could not.

The identity of the teen was not known Monday evening.

“He started to struggle pretty bad and was going under when some bystanders saw what was happening and were able to pull him out,” Adobato said. “His friends were pretty shook up but everyone is going to be alright.”

Emergency personnel from Fayette EMS took the boy to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville for observation, Adobato said.

“He was conscious and breathing fine once he was brought out of the water,” Adobato said. “He appeared to be OK.”
