Rock hits woman in face

1 min read

NEWELL – Southwest Regional police said a Bentleyville woman suffered serious injuries to her head and face following a rock-throwing incident in Newell Saturday night. Police said Debra Combs, 55, was driving on Third Street around 10:30 p.m. when a rock crashed through a window of her vehicle and struck her above her right eye. “It felt like a softball hit me,” Combs told WXPI-TV in Pittsburgh, news partner with the Herald-Standard. “I was so afraid. I felt like I lost the whole side of my face, that’s how bad it felt.”

Combs was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital in Carroll Township following the incident, police said.

Police said no suspects were discovered near the scene, however, investigators determined that the rock came from stones buttressing nearby railroad tracks.

Additionally, police said that it appeared that the suspects threw the rock from the train tracks at Combs’ car before fleeing on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 727-929-8484.
