Connellsville man charged with assault
A Connellsville man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted another man with a broom handle Monday afternoon. State police said Michael Edward Kingan, 33, was charged with aggravated assault and related charges after he beat Edward Nicholson, 46, also of Connellsville, with a broom handle. Police said the assault occurred after the two men began arguing at a location on Ridge Boulevard around 3 p.m.
During the argument, police said Kingan punched Nicholson multiple times and then beat him with the broom handle, causing severe injuries.
Police said emergency personnel took Nicholson to Highlands Hospital in Connellsville.
An update on his condition was not available Tuesday afternoon.
A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date before Magisterial District Judge Dwight K. Shaner.
Fayette County Court records indicate that Kingan is no stranger to the law. Kingan has faced charges on multiple occasions with charges ranging from public drunkenness to retail theft over the last decade.
