James Howard Spaw
James Howard Spaw, age 62, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009 in his home. Born on February 2, 1947 in Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of Geraldine Spaw Slebodnik (Spaw/Cobert) and the late George W. Spaw.
James was retired from Consol’s Dilworth Mine.
He served in the Vietnam War in Korea and was a member of the General George C. Marshal AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., and the Hutchinson Sportsmen’s Club.
He was a beloved husband, father and friend. He loved his family, his dogs and also his garage.
James was an avid car enthusiast. He was a Founding Member of the Summit Mountain Early Iron Car Club.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dale B. Adams.
Surviving, in addition to his mother and stepfather, Thomas Slebodnik; his wife of 43 years, Carol (Hassinger) Spaw; two sons: Richard Spaw and wife Connie of York, Pa., and Roger Spaw and wife Amy of State College, Pa.; grandchildren: Zachery and Alyssa; sisters and brothers; Yvonne “Bonnie” Partridge of Uniontown, Pa., Samuel Spaw and wife Sheila of Navarre, Florida, Susan Moscalink and husband Leon of Greensburg, Pa., Joseph Spaw and his wife Diane of Carlsbad, California; the family pets: Perdy and Cooper; his mother-in-law, Betty Adams of Hopwood, Pa.; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the GENERAL GEORGE C. MARSHALL AMVETS POST 103 in Hopwood, Pennsylvania.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal rescue, Noah’s Ark of Fayette County, 477 N. Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, Pa.
