Franklin Twp. officials award contract
FRANKLIN TWP. – Supervisors in Franklin Township on Monday tentatively awarded a contract for installing the Sugar Run Road sewer line extension that would provide sewer service to 17 homes. The contract was tentatively awarded to Bella Enterprises Inc. of Cecil, which submitted the apparent low bid of $175,989. T. Reed Kiger, chairman of the board of supervisors, said the contract would become official after engineer Rob Kuchar reviews and approves Bella’s bid.
The work, which involves installation of 4,334 feet of sewer line, would start in about a week, Kiger said.
When the job is finished, the township will turn the line over to the township sewer authority, he said.
Most of the money for the project would come from this year’s Community Development Block Grant and some would come from money left over from last year’s CDBG, Kiger said.
Supervisors took note of the number of contractors that were interested in the project.
Seventeen contractors picked up bid packages and 13 submitted bids.
The second lowest bid was $215,948 from Atlas Services Corp. of Eighty Four. The remaining bids ranged from $219,000 to $306,261.
In other business, the supervisors agreed to use an online reporting system to file the township’s annual liquid fuels fund report with the state Department of Transportation.
