Charges withdrawn in assault case

2 min read

All charges were withdrawn Thursday against a Masontown man accused of assaulting his girlfriend in early March. Masontown police Chief Joseph C. Ryan said Gary Lynn Brozik, 44, of 104 River Ave. was charged earlier this year before Magisterial District Judge Randy S. Abraham with recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief. During a preliminary hearing Thursday morning before Abraham, the charges against Brozik were withdrawn after it was learned that both parties had reached a settlement in the case.

According to Ryan, the incident occurred at 8:22 a.m. March 3 when Brozik kicked in the rear door of his home and then started hitting and choking Melinda Boyd, who lives at the residence with him.

Ryan said Boyd told police that Brozik was “out of control and would not stop.”

At some point during the alleged beating, Ryan said the fight moved outside and Brozik threw several full beer cans at Boyd and then tried to push her into traffic on River Avenue.

Ryan said Brozik eventually fled after a friend of Boyd’s arrived at the residence.

Boyd told police that she suffered injuries to her head, face, neck, chest and legs during the assault, Ryan said.

She was treated at Uniontown Hospital.
