Training planned
In the past few years we have seen a rise in health issues that make it impossible for the elderly to care for themselves. “Communities need to examine the basic needs of the elderly, the challenges they face and how these changes affect their functioning,” stated Carolyn Wissenbach, extension educator. To work toward this goal, Penn State Cooperative Extension in Greene County is offering a day long program, Enhancing Skills for Eldercare, on Aug. 26. The program will provide speakers who will focus on “Seniors Eating Well” – a program aimed at updating participants on health and nutrition issues related to the aging population and “Cooking for Crowds,” which will cover food safety practices including the causes of foodborne illness, preventing conditions that could lead to foodborne illness and safe purchasing, storage and preparation of food. This program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Greene County Cooperative Extension Office, 26 W. High St., Waynesburg. Cost for day is $55, which will include lunch. Advance registration is required by Friday.
This training is appropriate for Personal Care Home Directors and personnel, Home Health providers and Nursing Home employees. It has been approved by the Department of Public Welfare, Adult Residential Licensing program for 6 clock hours of ongoing training.
