Man arrested Michael Shaffer, 26, of Vanderbilt was arrested and charged with simple assault after he allegedly threatened to kill Jennifer Lear, 26, of Vanderbilt while in possession of a loaded rifle at 185 Grimplin Road around 10 p.m. Aug. 12, state police said, noting that the investigation is ongoing. Cicely Forcina of Republic reported that a granite memorial bench with a photograph embossed on it located at Lafayette Cemetery on Route 40 was damaged between 8 a.m. Aug. 13 and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, state police said. Anyone with information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible will be eligible for a cash reward. State police said Amber McDonald, 21, of Brownsville was cited for criminal mischief for allegedly throwing rocks at a vehicle belonging to Scott Darnell, 21, of Hopwood, damaging the vehicle’s windows. Police said the incident occurred in a parking lot at the intersection of Water and High streets at 1:45 a.m. Aug. 12.

Woman assaulted
State police said James Earnesty of Connellsville was charged with simple assault after he allegedly assaulted Cynthia Robinson of Connellsville at a location on Broadford Road at 11:30 p.m. Aug. 14. Police said Earnesty pulled Robinson’s hair and hit her in the face several times. Earnesty was arraigned and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond, according to police.

David Moore, 51, of Republic reported the driver’s side window was busted out of his vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, while the vehicle was parked at 805 Green St. on Aug. 4, state police said.
