Charles C. “Red” Kuhn, Jr.
Charles C. “Red” Kuhn, Jr., 87 of Carmichaels, Pa. and formerly of Centerville, Pa., died at 11:30 P.M. on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the Golden Living Center, Waynesburg. He was born May 28, 1922 in Alicia, Luzerne Township, Fayette County, Pa., son of the late Charles Clair and Lealia Leona (Dwyer) Kuhn, Sr.
Mr. Kuhn was a graduate of Centerville High School and resided in Carmichaels since 2004. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army with Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 379th Infantry in the European theater. For his injuries sustained in action, Mr. Kuhn was awarded a Purple Heart medal. He was the first mail carrier in the West Brownsville, Pa. postal route and worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years. As a disable American veteran, Mr. Kuhn was a former member and past commander of the American Legion Post 940 of West Brownsville, Pa. and a lifetime member of the Greene County Disabled American Veterans 123. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
On January 28, 1974, he married Lydia Marie Kirkpatrick, who survives.
Also surviving are two step daughters: Linda M. Iloshway of Sayville, NY and Brenda L. Guthrie and her husband, Dayrl of Carmichaels; four step grandchildren: Jennifer M. Price and her husband, Samuel, Julie M. Jakubik, John J. Jakubik and James C. Jakubik; a sister, Betty Marella of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a step son-in-law, John R. Jakubik of Washington, Pa.; several nieces and nephews and a special friend and caregiver, Sandy Ramsey of Beallsville, Pa.
Deceased are two brothers, Lloyd Dean Kuhn and Donald C. Kuhn and a step granddaughter, Amanda L. Jakubik.
Family and friends are welcome from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 P.M. today in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa.
Private interment will take place on Monday, August 24, 2009 at Greene County Memorial Park with full military honors accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Foundation, 1236 Ginger Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
