Search engine workshop planned St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host a workshop on search engine optimization at St. Vincent from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 16, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.

When searching for something on the Internet, most people use a search engine like Yahoo or Google. But many never view past the first few pages of results. This seminar will demonstrate how to be listed higher in the search engine results, increase visibility to a Web site, and utilize search engines to improve traffic to a Web site.

Presenter Joe Polk, senior technical specialist with the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program (PennTAP), will illustrate the importance of keywords, content, word placement, Web layout, HTML tags and META tags – hidden information placed in a Web page that is often used in search engines to classify content about a Web page. Polk also will offer attendees an opportunity to share their Web sites and how to apply these principles to them.

To register for the workshop, call the SBDC at 724-537-4572 or e-mail sbdc@stvincent.edu. There is a fee for the seminar that includes a continental breakfast, materials and an optional one-year subscription to Inc. magazine.
