South Union Twp. Charges filed

John M. Leapline, 45, of Uniontown was arrested and charged with retail theft for allegedly attempting to steal $48.96 worth of merchandise from JCPenney in Uniontown Mall at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, state police said. According to police, Leapline has two previous retail theft convictions, which makes the most recent offense a felony charge. He was placed in Fayette County Prison after failing to post a $1,000 straight cash bond, police said.

Also arrested in connection with Saturday?s incident, according to police, were Josh Leapline, 22, of Uniontown, who was charged with retail theft, and James Wolfe, 35, of Dunbar who was charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance. Police said a needle containing suspected heroin was found in Wolfe?s vehicle.

Park damaged

State police said a person drove a vehicle through the ball field at Springfield Township Park at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, damaging the grass. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-439-7111.

Mailbox damaged

Robert Bittinger, 42, of Uniontown reported a concrete block was used to damage a metal mailbox on Oliphant Road between 3 and 6 a.m. Saturday, state police said.

South Connellsville Twp.

Pool slashed

State police said an aboveground pool at 1812 Second St. belonging to an unidentified 47-year-old South Connellsville woman was slashed between midnight and 11:27 a.m. Sunday. Police estimated damages at $300.

Dunkard Twp.

Two injured

State police said two teenage boys were injured when the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a tree off Mount Joy Road in Greene County at 1:55 a.m. Sunday. Police said the driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old Greensboro boy, suffered minor injuries. The passenger of the vehicle, a 16-year-old Bobtown boy, suffered serious injuries, according to police, who said the crash is under investigation.

Charges filed

State police said disorderly conduct charges were filed against Brandon Tomcanin, 34, of Coal Center and Jackson Salisbury, 50, of Waynesburg after both were involved in an altercation on North Porter Street in Greene County around noon Saturday.

Liquor law violation

The Pittsburgh district office of the state Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement charged the Youngstown Hotel for using a loudspeaker or similar device that allowed the sound of music or other entertainment to be heard outside the 320 Maple St. business.

The alleged violations occurred Feb. 7, March 6 and 20 and April 19 of this year, according to the bureau.

An administrative law judge will hear the charges and can impose penalties ranging from $50 to $5,000 and/or a suspension or revocation of the business? liquor license, according to the bureau.

Man cited

Nathan Paul Hill, 37, of Uniontown was cited with harassment and reckless driving for allegedly arguing with Nicholas Ryan Cornish, 19, of Uniontown at the Sunoco on Route 857 and then following him in a vehicle in a reckless manner for about five miles at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, state police said.

Charges filed

City police said drunk driving charges were filed against Gina Fuller, 26, of 25 Shady Lane, Uniontown, after she allegedly struck a utility pole on Pittsburgh Street at 4:36 p.m. Friday. She was taken to Uniontown Hospital with cuts and scrapes on her forehead and her passenger, a 6-year-old boy who was not in child seat, had a red and swollen face, police said. Fuller also was cited with careless driving and not using a child restraint.

Shot fired

City police said they received a report of a black male firing a shot from a handgun in Pershing Court at 2:26 a.m. Saturday. The shooting is under investigation.

Burglary investigated

State police said a TV, Sony Playstation 3 and jewelry were taken from the Hooktown Avenue home of Colleen McLaughlin, 56, and Robert Lee McLaughlin Jr., 24, between 7:25 and 11:10 a.m. Thursday.

Tools stolen

Various tools were reported stolen from a vehicle owned by Clarence Oliver, 75, of Shaffer Street between 2 p.m. Aug. 16 and 6 p.m. Aug. 18, state police said. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to call the barracks at 724-439-7111.

Break in reported

A window on a home at 33 Mont View St. was pried open, activating an alarm at 12:58 p.m. Friday, city police said. Two buckets were found under the window.

Door damaged

State police said a door and doorframe on a storage unit at 172 Main St. were damaged between 8:30 p.m. Thursday and 8:15 a.m. Friday. Police ask anyone with information about the criminal mischief to call the barracks at 724-439-7111.

Car accident

A car driven by Edwin Beachy, 56, of Confluence was traveling east on Route 40 when it crossed the westbound lane and hit a car parked in the All American Landscaping lot at 2:34 p.m. Friday, state police said. No injuries were reported.

Car damaged

Someone damaged a windshield on a car owned by Betty Scott of Waynesburg at 1760 Morris St. at 9:45 p.m. Friday, state police said.
