The economy and snowsports
The economy has made snowsports resorts join forces like Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Hidden Valley Resort, and Wisp Resort in offering their unlimited season passholders deals. Because of Pennsylvania’s tight state budget, major budget cuts have slashed tourism promotion funds and grants. However, because of the vision of Fayette County Board of Commissioners Chairman Vince Zapotosky (D), and Commissioner Vince Vicities (D) in approving the hotel tax, it has provided a life line in the funding of tourism promotion and grants for the Laurel Highlands Tourism Bureau to administer.
Commissioner Zapotosky’s promoted the hotel tax when he campaigned for the commissioner showing leadership simular to the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who lead our nation out of the depression.
Zapotosky as chairman of the commissioners represents Mystic Mountain at Nemacolin Woodlands, and the North Face Section of Seven Springs.
Commissioner James Marker (R) of Somerset County reminds me of the late President Dwight D. Eisenhower who kept America on a steady course. Marker has been a moving force in keeping the Laurel Highlands tourism industry on the same course.
Pennsylvania Attorney General and Republican Candidate for Governor, Tom Corbett is the only gubernatorial candidate to attend the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. He has taken a strong position in welcoming past and present members of the U. S. Ski Team to visit the Keystone State, moving the state’s snowsports industry to a higher level.
West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin (D) took the words of the late President John F. Kennedy when he said, “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
Gov. Manchin has done just that in making West Virginia snowsports resources a major priority and making it the positive talk of America.
West Virginia, long known as the Mountain State, is home to Timberline Resort, Oglebay Resort, Canaan Valley Resort, Winterplace Resort, Snowshoe Resort, and Alpine Lake Resort (cross country), and has high elevated mountains with impressive vertical drops.
All in all, snowsports resorts bring economic benefits to their region, their state and those who want jobs in this American economy
