Sexual assault suspect sentenced to probation
A Masontown man charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl was sentenced to one day less than five years probation on Wednesday in Fayette County Court. Randy Lee Gibbs Jr., 20, was charged with statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors in 2008.
He entered a guilty plea to all of the charges in May before Judge Steve P. Leskinen.
The jurist also sentenced Gibbs to serve 11 1/2 months on house arrest with electronic monitoring, but said he would be allowed to go to work, medical appointments, church or any other exceptions that the Fayette County Adult Probation office allows.
Masontown police charged Gibbs in August 2008 after the 14-year-old girl’s mother reported that he sexually assaulted the teen. Police said Gibbs and the girl has sex at his home on Washington Street.
The Herald-Standard does not identify victims in sexual assault cases.
Police said Gibbs admitted to having sex with the girl.
Part of Leskinen’s sentence required that Gibbs have no contact with the victim in the case.
The jurist indicated that he fashioned the sentence with the understanding that Gibbs also was a teenager, and there was no force used.
