John DeGardeyn
John DeGardeyn Jr., 81 of Point Marion passed away on December 7, 2009 in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born March 11, 1928 in Point Marion son of the late of John and Anne Marie (Mary) Verset DeGardeyn. John was a life long resident of Point Marion, graduating from Point Marion High School, Fairmont State Teachers College and received a Masters Degree from West Virginia University. He taught school for over thirty years before retiring from the Albert Gallatin School District.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 747, American Legion Post 499 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1932 all of Point Marion.
He is survived by his daughter, Anna-Marie DeGardeyn OShea and husband Shaun of Florence, SC, son, John DeGardeyn III and wife Tammy of Point Marion, five grandchildren, Miana DeGardeyn of Chicago, Ill., Adam DeGardeyn of Nashville, Tenn., Abram DeGardeyn of Point Marion, Gregg Leavitt II of Effingham, SC, Thomas Leavitt of Pawleys Island, SC and his sister Lydia Altomare of Baltimore, MD.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Delores Moats DeGardeyn, and his sister Mary Louise Brownfield.
As requested by John, services and burial will be private.
