Laurel Highlands 94, Woodland Hills 89 – Justin Kostelnik won two individual and one relay to help Laurel Highlands to a non-section victory over Woodland Hills. Kostelnik grabbed a WPIAL qualifying in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.97. He won the 100 butterfly with a time of :56.32 and teamed with Chris Kostelnik, Zach Collins and Kevin Bane to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.30).
The Mustangs (3-0) welcome Belle Vernon Thursday in a non-section meet.
Canon-McMillan 87, Belle Vernon 66 – Brendan Lacey won the 200 and 100 freestyles with WPIAL qualifying times, but the Leopards could not overcome the Big Macs in a non-section meet.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Tom Crawford, Scott Verner and Lacey took first with a WPIAL qualifying time. Crawford also won the 500 freestyle. Lacey teamed with David Lynn, Crawford and Brandon Luda to with the 200 freestyle relay.
The Leopards are on the road Thursday at Laurel Highlands.
Girls swimming
Woodland Hills 90, Laurel Highlands 80 – Haley Dascenzo picked up two first-place finishes, but Woodland Hills was too much for Laurel Highlands in non-section action.
Dascenzo teamed up with Heather Hunchuck, Karen Crackovich and Casey Dascenzo to grab first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:54.86. She also won the 100 backstroke (1:08.66).
The Fillies (2-1) host Belle Vernon Thursday in non-section play.
Canon-McMillan 99, Belle Vernon 70 – Mary Warlde won the 50 freestyle in a WPIAL qualifying time in a difficult night for the Lady Leopards.
Belle Vernon is on the road Thursday at Laurel Highlands.
Boys basketball
Bentworth 71, Frazier 61 – Bentworth rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Frazier at Bentworth in non-section play.
Bentworth (2-1) outscored Frazier 21-9 in the third quarter to take control of the game. Clay Roman and John Barker had 19 points respectively for Bentworth.
Robert Gondura paced the Commodores (1-1) with 12 points. Frazier hosts Monessen Friday in its Section 5-AA opener.
