Application being accepted for fair queen contestants
The Fayette County Fair is now accepting applications for this year’s fair queen contestants. This year’s fair will be held from July 30 through Aug. 8. The fair queen contest will take place at 7:30 on the opening night of the fair. To qualify for the competition, registrants must:
? Be at least 16 years of age and no older than 20 years old as of June 1
? Be a resident of Fayette County
? Have permission from a parent or guardian to participate
? Be single, never married, have had no children and must not marry or become pregnant during her reign
? Not be a former local fair queen winner or state fair queen contestant
Fair queen contestants will be judged on a written essay, “What my fair means to my community;” a speech presentation about “Why you should come to the Fayette County Fair;” a personal interview; evening gown modeling and making a personal introduction.
The fair queen will receive a $500 scholarship and prizes, and will go on to compete in the 2010 state fair queen contest at Hershey in January 2010. The winner of the state fair queen contest will receive a scholarship and hold the title as the state fair queen.
All applications for fair queen must be submitted no later than Friday, July 17.
