Attorney requests case be heard in juvenile court
The attorney for a 17-year-old Uniontown resident charged as an adult with attempted homicide filed a petition in Fayette County Court on Thursday asking that the matter be transferred to juvenile court. Earlier this week, Timothy Bradley turned himself into Uniontown police to face the charges, which relate to a shooting June 26. Police alleged Bradley fired multiple shots at Robert Harris, 16, and Randy K. Dennis, 18, both of Uniontown, outside of a Murray Avenue home. Dennis was hit in the buttocks, police said.
On Monday, Bradley’s attorney, Samuel J. Davis, said his client got the gun after being repeatedly threatened by Harris. Davis contended that Harris shot at Bradley earlier in the day, and Bradley got the gun “out of fear.”
Police, however, said that Bradley drove up to the home, got out of the car and started firing. They found numerous .380-caliber shell casing on the ground, police said, and Bradley fled the scene.
Davis said that Bradley was going to the home to talk to his family because he had seen a younger cousin riding in a car with Harris and wanted to warn them about Harris.
Bradley said tension started between the two when he and Harris got into a physical fight about one month ago. Bradley said Friday he thought the matter had been put to rest.
Davis said Bradley, a recent graduate of Laurel Highlands High School, was a football player and an honor student who was accepted to Bethany College on his academic merits.
In the petition, Davis indicated Bradley is “amenable to treatment, supervision and rehabilitation … and deserving of the opportunity to receive this type of treatment.
“The defendant is completely willing to complete any type of program, counseling, or rehabilitation that would be imposed by the court as part of the juvenile court system,” he wrote.
He also indicated that Bradley would “suffer great harm” if he were sent to jail as an adult offender.
A judge has not yet set a date to hear the motion.
