Elizabeth M. “Betty” Shepa, age 95 of Perryopolis, Pa., passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009 peacefully in her home. She was born June 11, 1914 in Perryopolis, daughter of Steve Philips and Mary Elizabeth (Sofranko) Philips.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Shepa and her brothers and sisters: Steve Philips, Mary Baluch, Mike Philips, Christine Zuzan, Susan Vrabel, William Philips and Helen Kozar.

Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in New Salem where she had served as housekeeper for thirty-five years for Rev. Fr. Joseph Chornyak, Slovak Catholic Sokol, Greek Catholic Union, Third Order of Franciscans and VFW Post 7023 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter Joann Manack and husband James of Perryopolis; her grandchildren: James A. Manack, Jr. and wife Linda, Rebecca Gira and husband Mark, Mark Manack and wife Vicki and Christine Hutchinson and husband Randy; eleven great-grand-children; four great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, New Salem on Sunday, July 5, 2009 from 2 to 9 p.m. and on Monday, July 6, 2009 until 9:30 a.m. when a Panachida will be held in the funeral home. A Con-Celebrated Divine Liturgy with Metropolitan Arch Bishop Basil Schott O.F.M. DD, Metropolitan Arch Bishop of Pittsburgh, Rev. Fr. Jerome G. Botsko and Very Rev. Fr. Richard J. Whetstone as Con-Celebrants will follow in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, New Salem at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Perryopolis.

We love you Baba and will miss you so much. May you rest in peace.

Parastas will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening in the Funeral Home.
