Menallen awards contracts
MENALLEN TWP. – Menallen Township supervisors on Thursday awarded contracts to two area companies for a reserve supply of stone and anthracite to complete small jobs in the township. Coolspring Stone Supply Inc. of Uniontown was awarded the contract for stone. The price for the stone varies depending on the type and ranges from $8 to $14.50 a ton for pick-up and $11.75 to $18.25 delivered. Golden Eagle Construction Co.’s asphalt division, based in Uniontown, will supply the township with anthracite. The cost varies depending on the type of anthracite and ranges between $47 to $65 a ton for pick-up and $52 to $70 for delivery.
Three companies competed in the bidding process.
In other business, Supervisor Joe Petrucci said work on Fan Hollow Road has been completed. A section of the road between Northgate Highway and Langley Road had been closed in order to widen a bridge.
The bridge has been widened by at least seven feet, and it is now wide enough to accommodate two cars at the same time.
In other matters, Supervisor Robert “Tweety” Yatsko announced the township has been citing people for not maintaining their properties.
Since May, a total of 13 citations have been issued to six residents for not removing weeds, making necessary repairs and removing garbage.
The citations continued into June when a total of 24 citations were issued to three property owners. The citations ranged from accumulation of rubbish to having unsafe structures on their properties.
In other matters, the supervisors:
? Announced that the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department will have a hog roast and car show with live bands on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12. All activities will take place at the New Salem firemen’s picnic area at The Woods.
? Scheduled the next regular meeting for 7 p.m. Aug. 6.
