Uniontown police probe indecent assault charges
Uniontown police are investigating the alleged indecent assault of a woman at a residence on Lawn Avenue Tuesday night. Police said they were called to the home of Cynthia Bittinger shortly before midnight for a reported assault. Police said Bittinger told police that she had walked to a neighbor’s home to borrow a cup of sugar around 11:40 p.m. She told officers that while she was standing inside the residence waiting for her neighbor to get the sugar, an unidentified man inside the home began to touch and grope her, police said.
She slapped the man’s hands away and told him that she was married but he continued to grope her, so she fled the house, police said.
The man pursued her outside and tried to hold on to her but she broke free and went home. Police said Bittinger’s husband then called 911 to report the incident.
Police searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.
Police said that when they interviewed a woman at the neighboring home, she told police that she that she was unsure of the suspect’s name and said that he drove a dark-colored minivan.
The incident remains under investigation, police said.
