Dog assault suspect sought by police
State police are searching for burglars who broke into a Jefferson Township home and kicked the homeowner’s disabled dog before stealing more than $400. Ronald Russin, 66, of Grindstone said the burglars kicked and stomped on his 3-year-old bloodhound named Hecter, who was recently hit by a car and is unable to use his legs. “I don’t care about the money. It’s the dog I worry about. You can always get more money, but I can never get Hector back again,” Russin told Herald-Standard news partner WPXI Channel 11 in Pittsburgh.
Police said the burglars entered Russin’s home through a basement window on Monday and injured the dog before stealing $432 in cash and a collection of commemorative quarters.
“I think it’s terrible that somebody would do that to a dog, especially a crippled dog. He’s not a fighter. He’s a lover,” said Russin. “People come in the house and say he will bite. I say, ‘No. He is just going to lick you to death.'”
Russin said Hector is taking medication for his latest injuries.
Police said neighbors reported seeing an older-model sport utility vehicle in Russin’s driveway during the time the robbery allegedly occurred.
