Baby Rain Day applicants sought
Parents of infants and children have looked forward to this unique event each year since the first Baby Rain Day Royalty was crowned in 1986. Each year a new Baby Rain Day King, Queen, Prince and Princess will be crowned and honored on the Rain Day stage. Each child that enters will receive a certificate of participation, and Thank You gift provided by the Special Events Commission and area merchants.
The winners will receive a savings bond, crown or tiara, title banner, flowers, special gifts and the honor of representing Rain Day throughout the coming year.
Winners in each category are determined by the number of votes received (1 dollar equals 1 vote).
All proceeds go to organize next year’s Rain Day Festival and a portion is donated to the Waynesburg playground each year.
To enter your child submit a completed application, a decorated Pringles can with at least one photo of the child, a $5 entry fee and two wallet sized photos of the entrant only which will be sent to the local papers. All items must be dropped off at the Waynesburg Borough office located at 90 East High Street by July 21.
The contestant cans will be displayed from July 21 through July 28 in the lobby of First Federal Savings & Loan’s downtown office. The contestant cans will also be displayed at the Special Events Commission Booth near the courthouse on Rain Day, July 29, until 3 p.m.
To qualify the contestant must be a Greene County resident. Age categories, as of July 29, are as follows: Prince/Princess, birth to 19 months; and King/Queen, must be at least 19 months and one day but have not yet reached their fourth birthday.
The rules for entry are as follows:
n Only clean (inside and lid) Pringles can will be displayed.
n No objects are to protrude from any part of the can.
n Please leave the lid clear and uncut. Do not decorate lid.
n Each can must display at least one picture of your child.
n Absolutely no soliciting or advertising for contributions permitted.
n The Special Events Commission is not responsible for any damage to the cans.
n In addition to the photo on the can, please submit two additional wallet size pictures containing the contestant ONLY for the local newspapers.
n All participants should be present at Rain Day at 7 p.m. near the stage. The winners will be announced and crowned on stage.
n Participation gifts for all contestants may be picked up on Rain Day at the Special Events Commission Booth after 7:30 p.m.
n Cans and pictures may be picked up after Rain Day at the Waynesburg Borough office until August 31; after that date, they will be discarded.
